Arwa

Arwa Ahmad ElDabas is a junior student at the Islamic University of Gaza, majoring in English translation and Literature. As an emerging writer and poet who grew up witnessing the realities of life under the Israeli occupation, she turns to poetry and prose to translate silence into language and pain into meaning. She aspires to become a recognized literary voice, believing that words are not merely expressions, but powerful tools of resistance, awareness, and transformation.

And I beg you, please let me stir a revolution... if you refuse, I shall do it alone in my heart before it forgets its name.

Kindle the Spark: Echoes In Arabic and English, by Arwa

Kindle a revolution in my heart

before it forgets its name...

A revolution, or perhaps several...

Flood its corridors with pure water to restore

its splendour...

to breathe life again

Lift the curtains of sorrow, replace them with rosy ones,

if you will...

But hurry and trigger a revolution in my heart before it

loses its name...

Emptiness no longer soothes the eyes,

The moon no longer brings hope.

Darkness reigns, and darkness is frightening...

Not all black is desirable...

Not all white is beautiful...

So spark a revolution or several in my heart,

but preserve the old souls dwelling there.

Fill its veins with forgiveness and tolerance,

so I may cast away a tangled, dusty past...

Speak to me and unchain my tongue...

Let it pour over you with love and hope...

Let me be myself.

Let me shape and adorn my existence.

Step back, do not crowd the shelves;

hope too heavy will consume you.

Find balance, and restore justice to your backs

before the courts

Fill the streets with sweet scents...

not with glances that harbour darkness in their

depths, however hardened and constricted they

may be...

Begin peace with your words before your hands,

and seal it with an embrace that makes all the

difference.

And I beg you, please let me stir a revolution...

if you refuse, I shall do it alone in my heart before it

forgets its name.
