Street Suffering

M

Menna

Born in 2004, Menna is a translator, audio content presenter, podcaster, aspiring writer, and poet. Through her work, she brings life to her voice and to those the world has forgotten. Menna believes the genocide in Gaza has produced a new generation of writers. She writes many short texts you may find published on her Instagram page, and she also enjoys voice-over presentations and her latest work Roam the Streets and Collect Street Sayings, narrates colloquial Arabic street sayings alongside their English translations.

I feel like a power pole, extinguished and worn out, tired of life.

Street Suffering In Arabic and English, by Menna

Under the moonlight,

sitting on an old broken chair, broken like my heart,

I see the moon

hiding behind the mournful clouds.

The cold breeze-my body is shaking.

Dogs are howling

and walking in front of me.

I feel scared now.

I try to catch the internet-the street internet.

Weak, like my body, and absent,

like the absence of hope from my life.

I stand for seconds, Minutes, hours...

A butterfly flies around my feet, trying to take my soul,

and fly it far away from this world, wherever there is peace.

I feel like a power pole-extinguished and worn out, tired of life.

Forgotten by the side of the road, and hidden

in the darkness of the night...
