Midnight

N

Noor

Noor is a student in English Literature and Translation who is passionate about writing. She aims to use her craft to share the voice of Gaza with the world.

Their crime is the same: we only wanted to live. Just to live.

Midnight In Arabic and English, by Noor

In the city of Kohl

I gaze at the sky

and watch the stars

and ask myself:

Is it a star or a knife of light?

It moves, or perhaps watches me

carrying with it the night's question

Where will it drop its burden today?

On a house without walls

or on tattered cloth?

Which prey will it choose?

An elder or a child?

A youth at the dawn of life?

Or perhaps,

me?

Someone will taste orphanhood,

tonight

and a mother's heart

will melt over the loss of her child

It will be the last night for someone

beside their lover,

or the final dinner of a family,

surviving together,

toward the sky

Everyone here is a target

Their crime is the same:

We only wanted to live

Just to live

Have something to share?
