If only you had held me, and we had crumbled together, and risen side by side into the sky.

To My Beloved Home In Arabic and English, by Noor

I left you too quickly, without saying goodbye, without touching your stones, without embracing your walls

I left you alone, empty of me

My fear,

the trembling of my hands, my tears, my hoarse cry

Is that enough to excuse me?

I wonder about your first night,

without me

Did loneliness make you cry?

I know nothing of you, yet a waterfall of tears burst from my eyes

that night

Do you know?

I was not far from you

The sounds of explosions

circled around you

and with every falling missile,

I prayed you would stand tall

They pulled me away from you as we had never been apart

I am in the South, bound by checkpoints, choked by the air

Why didn't you call me?

Why didn't you stop me from leaving?

If only you had held me, and we had crumbled together, and risen side by side into the sky.
